Peter has always enjoyed working on/fixing cars. At the age of seven he pulled an engine apart and put it back together with the help of his father. With this fascination with cars Peter couldn’t wait to finish school and start his apprenticeship as a motor mechanic in 1981. Peter excelled in his trade and has always been highly respected as an excellent motor mechanic. I know Peter won’t brag about it but he is regarded as one of the best motor mechanics here in Geelong.

While doing his apprenticeship Peter worked for Quintonhazel (the original QH) and Australian Brake Service. GKN brought out Quintonhazel then years later Echlin Australia bought them out. Peter was employed throughout these takeovers and was regarded as a very valuable employee and team member.

At the start of 1993 Peter & Tina ventured out and started their own business. Moving to its current address Peter Murphy Automotive Repairs has been operating successfully for 18 years. In 2008 Peter & Tina purchased the premises that they had been leasing for so many years. In the same year the business became a company and now trades as Peter Murphy Automotive Repairs Pty Ltd. 2017 Peters oldest son Zachary has started his adult apprenticeship after completing his Certificate 2 in Automotive Studies to now studying Certificate 3 in Light Vehicle Mechanics.

Peter is very thorough and does not cut corners when working on peoples cars. He also will not use cheap imitation parts on his customers cars. Peter says to his customers “I use the same brand parts that I use on my own car”. The motor trade is ever changing, Peter stays up to date with the new technology by doing re-training and courses. He is keen to talk with the reps that come into work showing us all the new equipment, tools and parts that are available.

Peter has a very good rapport with his customers and the majority of our customers are female. They feel comfortable coming into the workshop and they appreciate that Peter talks to them and explains what he has done to fix their cars. Peter also teaches his customers how to maintain and look after their cars in-between services. He also advises his good customers when they are purchasing a new car about the pros & cons of the make & model they may be looking at. He’s not shy to tell them if he thinks a certain car is a bucket of junk.

We have been in business long enough for our customers children to now be old enough to drive. So we have two and three generations of families bringing their cars to be serviced with us.
